About Regional Innovation Strategy Projects
Since 1994, more than 120 European regions have received support for carrying out Regional Innovation Strategy projects from the European Commission. These projects aim to support regions in developing regional innovation strategies that enhance regional innovation and competitiveness through optimising innovation policies and infrastructure.
New RIS
Description

The RIS (Regional Innovation Strategy) projects in New Member States and Associated Countries aim to support regions to develop regional innovation strategies that would enhance regional innovation and competitiveness through optimising innovation policies and infrastructure. 33 RIS projects, financed by Enterprise DG, were launched in 2005.

Each region is accompanied by at least one other region that has already undertaken a Regional Innovation Strategy project, which allows them to take full advantage of previous experiences. The projects use a common methodology based on three main elements: consensus-building among key actors within the regional innovation system, analysis of the regional innovation system, and the development of widely endorsed policies and strategic frameworks on innovation support.
